Not only were we all big fans of the PC Engine line back in the days, but we actually enjoyed the game's TGS demo.

While just two reviews in last week's issue of Famitsu seemed to spell doom for serious gaming plans this week, IGN Japan is setting aside time for Tengai Makyo III, which hits retail on Thursday. We've noticed retailers stocking the UMD disks in their game section. PSP owners can now pick up Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2 and Spiderman on the UMD Video format with a number of Japanese labels contributing to the UMD Music format. Those are genuine UMD Video and Music disks on that shelf at a nearby Tsutaya outlet.

We stumbled upon one of the biggest stories of the week on accident as we made our rounds looking for pamphlets (as promised last week, we've got a bunch of pamphlets in the ad section waiting to be downloaded): Interestingly enough, this buyout comes just before the release of Tengai Makyo III, a series which harkens back to Hudson's glory days as the lead software producer for the PC Engine. On the business side of things, struggling Hudson Soft (or is it Hudson?) threw in the towel and is now a full subsidiary of Konami. Capcom at last unveiled the PSP and DS Viewtiful Joe games. Outside of the few releases, there were some big headlines this past week. For a seven-minute video tour of the event, turn down a few pages. Nintendo made a grand event of the game's release, converting a popular event hall in Tokyo's Harajuku area into a museum highlighting the game and its creator, Toshio Iwai. Titles like WRC4 and Gundam: Ichi Nen no Sensou have kept our PS2 spinning with Wipeout and its currently Japan-only downloadable content occupying our PSP time and Nintendo's latest curiosity, ElectroPlankton, monopolizing the DS (praise indeed, considering how much fun we're having with Kirby as well!).ĮlectroPlankton was actually the topic of more than just a quick Thursday release. The middle of April brought with it a slow down in game releases, but there was still some fun to be had for gamers in Japan.
